Harry Potter and the sorcerers stone
My Harry Potter research task.
Synopsis of my film; Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone is about a characters life, showing two wizards bring a baby to his uncle and aunties house, this boy has a scar on his head which makes him unique, he lives unhappily with his relatives and when he reaches his teen ages he recieves thousands of letters to tell him he belongs to a wizards school and must attend, more and more come through because his uncle avoids them, the family then is forced to run away thinking the wizards will not find them, but a friendly wizard finds them and takes the boy to his wizard school, were he makes friends, and is reconisged by everyone, the boy wonders why everyone looks at him and greets him in such odd ways, the friendly wizard (father figure to the main character) then explains that his mum and dad were murdered by a evil monster but but main character (Harry Potter) defended himself at such a young stage. The bouys memory comes back when his scar hurts, because this is the only harm he recieved from the creatute. The boy then attends a talented wizard school, he makes friends, but find many things suspicious and realises that something isnt right, once he notices bad things and a three headed gaurd dog, he is determind to find out what tis happening, he finds clues and suspects, teachers are curious of this young boy now. At christmas time Harry Potter recieves a visibilty coat this will help him get passed the three headed dog, Harry and his two best friends Herminey and Ron, then find ways to make the dog sleep so they can get past, they are in the room with the three dogs, and the three dogs are sleeping because of music, but they didnt set it up so this means that someone is in the gaurded place. Danger is ahead. They get in just in time, after waking the dogs, and now face trials to get through to the place they want to reach. This includes playing a game of chess, Ron then gets injured-herminy then tells Harry to continue, and so he does, he manages to defeat a proffessor who despises him, because the proffessor is a slave and is owned by the evil one who gave Harry the scar.

Horizontal and vertical intergration
It is often known that a distributor will own multiple companies in the film industry, which is divided into two different types of ownerships; horizontal and vertical.
Horizontal; the term horizontal integration describes a type of ownership and control. It is a strategy used by a business or corporation that seeks to sell a type of product in numerous markets. Horizontal integration in marketing is much more common than vertical integration is in production. Horizontal integration occurs when a firm is being taken over by, or merged with, another firm which is in the same industry and in the same stage of production as the merged firm.
Vertical; the term vertical integration describes a style of management control. Vertically integrated companies in a supply chain are united through a common owner. Usually each member of the supply chain produces a different product or (market-specific) service, and the products combine to satisfy a common need. It is contrasted with horizontal integration.
(found in http://www.wikipedia.org/)
An example used for this is Warner Bros which owns three different aspects
*Warner Bro's Studios (for the production)
*Warner Bro's (distribution)
*Warner bro's used to also own its own cinemas with in the UK.
My understanding of this has grown, i now understand what it means by horizontal and vertical and why companies do this, so that they make money and don't just rely on one process in the film making, for example the company will expand it angle to make more profit; Warner Bro's did all three processes so that they gained more money.
What are the advantages for a parent company of each type of ownership?
The advantage is basically that through all ways the company can make money, so for example if another production wants Warner Bro's to be its distributor, this way Warner Bro's makes money. All three sectors of a film makes a profit through all stages, so the money is basically trippled.

The film process
There are three distinct areas of the film industry, production, distribution and exhibition can be viewed as a type of media institution. These are three different stages in a film process;
Production- which is the creation of the film, what i think of when i hear this term is the production means the planning and filming of the film.
Distribution- A distributor refers to a market of the film, its known as the final agent between the film production company (makers of the film) and a film exhibitor(example cinema) basically selling the production to the exhibitor, distribution finds ways to sell and persuade the exhibitor to buy/rent the film also persuade them that they will make profits money out of the film.
Exhibition- is how the production and the distributor and the exhibitor makes money. Exhibition is defined as a presentation of a product. for example a exhibition in an art museum sells the product, in the film industry terms the film is being exhibited by selling itself in cinemas.
These are the three stages of a film process, the creation, then the distributor sells this product to a exhibitor, persuading them to sell this product in their cinema and so on. If the exhibitor is persuaded the film may sell, through advertisement and all three stages will profit.
